Laibach: Across the Universe

Satire, sarcasm. Laibach is disturbing, never take it seriously. Powerful clip though.

..and then you respond with remarks on how awful or great Laibach is and post your own tunes :p.

That's cool, well done miss Greta.

04-11-2009, 23:19 Luucaz

Like said in basement, miss Greta is cool as a person, Birch girl is not but the song is indeed very catchy. Lots in this business is about personality. Which is why I sorta like Helene Fisher. I know the music is not good. Well, that's a debatable issue too, actually. The experience is enjoyable.

Helene Fischer - Auf der Reise ins Licht

Edit: I seem to click the last days arrow a lot instead of 'OK', recognize ?

05-11-2009, 09:22 Emmerrrrrrr

Just have to post this, though I'm pretty sure most people will find it awful. Thantos should at least appreciate the first 10 seconds (though same thing is repeated around 04.50). It's steel drums, a summer tune. And then it gets into a wild pagan metal fest. I listened to it 50 times today and not bored yet.

Equilibrium - Unbesiegt

Little note on the screaming. It's called pig-squealing and while pretty awful to the ears at first (well, mine resisted), it's like a good wine. An acquired taste. This band does it a lot better than a lot of others. They also combine it with 'grunting' a lot (the screamer talking to the grumbler and vice versa), which seems German bands do very well. If for some weird reason someone really appreciates, there's this other German band, KromleK, that, well, competes with Equilibrium, and for that matter, with Finntroll and Svartby on my when I'm dead do this list.

[Ofcourse, I also ordered the album today. That's what youtube music is for, telling me what to order, no pun.]

09-03-2010, 23:53 integer

I've been listening to Lykke Li for a while now, genius. "Tonight" is rapidly becoming one of my favourite tunes of all time.

14-03-2010, 20:42 Luucaz

Only listening since 10-03-2010, 11:22. Heard the name, ignored like I do most. 'Tonight' did stuck though, same for 'Possibility' and 'Dance, dance, dance'. Figure this is gonna be the soundtrack for awful stuff (and I'm totally reviving miss Fiona Apple here). Thanks int, pretty awesome.

Sidenote. Was at paganfest yesterday. Sorta disappointing, not unexpected, really disliked 4 out of 7 bands (Arkona sorta sympathetic at times). Equilibrium was great, but not much charisma (new singer), Finntroll, same story. But for some reason Dornenreich, while totally out of place, triggered me googling them. More art, not so much metal.

15-03-2010, 09:48 Laurensh1

Telephone of course. I can also watch it now ;)
Yes, the popular clip by Lady Gaga is out =D

15-03-2010, 23:12 JOLE

German duo, no revolution (bit of elektro, bit singer-songwriter), but for some reason extremely well executed, I keep listening to it. Even Emmerrrrrrr might like (she sings). For a little while can listen to full album still:

02-09-2011, 19:15 Luucaz

I'm hardly past Edward Sharpe & TMZ, but this is brilliant, like, it almost scares me (and, as usual, I'm late to the party):

So excited about all the new stuff that is coming out this year! Nightflight by Kate Miller-Heidke in April, What We Saw From The Cheap Seats by Regina Spektor in May.. the song stuck in my head at the moment is "La France" by Camille. And @Luuc did you hear about Fiona Apple's new release due in June? =D

12-03-2012, 22:32 Luucaz

I did not (!), now I'm exited. My birthday in June, was meant to be (ok, a 1/12 chance..). Camille reminds me a little of Lykke Li, bit smaller maybe. Tune Emmerrrrrrr linked is sorta gimmicky (risky if not knowing more tunes), other songs more arty.

Last days was about Deutschlands meiste band die Welt here, Knorkator, awaiting last album. Insane band, but done with bearded indie bands for a couple of years.

13-03-2012, 21:54 Emmerrrrrrr

Of course it was meant to be. Regina's cd release in May was also very much meant to be ;p Now that's a veeeeeery interesting video by the way.

Fiona Apple - Anything We Want. It's happening, it's happening, it's happening now!

10-06-2012, 20:58 Luucaz

Cool! Better than the other 2 songs there, on which I'd have bought her album anyway. Thanks for the reminder, pre-ordered, just a week or so. Currently in my cd player a lot: New Wild Everywhere by Great lake swimmers. And while ordering Fiona, figured I had to get Giant Sand/Howe Gelbs 'country rock opera' Tucson too. Lots of cool releases lately.

14-06-2012, 19:00 Luucaz

I need to listen a few times more, but I think this might be something for you, Emma:

16-06-2012, 21:18 Emmerrrrrrr

Nice voice. Not sure if there's enough.. variation. If that makes sense. When I heard the first few lines I thought 'Feist!', but Feist is usually more surprising. Currently listening to Little Numbers.. hmm okay this is a bit different! Like this.

Heres some Canadian Music (YES WE HAVE A MUSIC INDUSTRY UP HERE!)
It's my fathers favourite song, grew up listening to them because of that, probably my favourite band, always revisit them if I'm feeling down.

This particular song is about a Canadian man who was put in prison for 20 years and was then found not guilty. Lot of references to Canadian culture.. sorry xD.
What Kings = Grain silos in the prairies
CBC = BBC but for Canadians.

30-11-2012, 17:59 Luucaz

Growing up with the Tragically Hip ain't that bad, it seems to me. Or it just isn't. Totally uninspired music-wise lately, so a weird mix of Knorkator, Yum!Yum!ORANGE, Eels, Ahlam and unrelated on speakers lately. Today, in between cleaning house, rewarded myself with digging up some Hundreds coverage. My price, a raw, live, bit techno-ish (outro) version of my fav Hundreds song, 'Grab the sunset':

03-03-2014, 07:58 Sodom

I was bored and was watching machinimas.

04-03-2014, 18:56 Luucaz

I prolly should google machinimas. If you don't know what it is and you watch that it's sorta mesmerizing. I watched it all and am a little bit confuzzled :p.

06-03-2014, 20:44 Luucaz

First single/video by Hundreds (Germany), second album. Gotta say I really, really like the video. Said I wasn't convinced on the song yet, it grows on me. Their first album was darkish/mysterious, this seems a bit more light. Really curious on full album (may release). Also think Emma, and anyone really, should be a fan, this whole US/UK domination is silly.

07-03-2014, 00:10 Thantos

That's actually a nice song Luuc!

Listening to right now. Discovered it yesterday on reddit in a thread where they discussed the new Save The Children UK video (if you haven't seen it, you should:

Not usually the music I listen to, but I like it a lot!

07-03-2014, 22:50 Emmerrrrrrr

Huh. That song ended abruptly, Sander.. The vocals are drowned in the sound a little too much for my taste. That Save the Children clip is really clever though! Amnesty has used a similar slogan to the one at the end for a series of posters:

Thanks for linking to the new Hundreds song, Luuc! When you first linked to some of their songs I kind of liked them, but didn't really get into it - too dark maybe. But I really enjoyed this one, now I'm adding the 2010 album to my Spotify queue again for a second try. Her voice reminds me of Neko Case and Sarah Blasko.

New music I'm really excited about is Kate Miller-Heidke's new album. Her first crowd-funded album, she mailed a full stream to her pledgers today! Yayy. It's going to be online in a few days I think - I'll link to it then. I've only allowed myself to listen to the first 6 songs (saving the second half for the official release date), and, unsurprisingly, I love them. She really lets her opera background shine here while also just being a catchy pop singer.

Okay, so since I can't link to Kate yet, here's Nicole Atkins' "Cool People":

By the way, has anyone here tried Forgotify? Lets you listen to the songs on Spotify that no one has streamed before. It's.. interesting. You get a Czech audio book or two in there, maybe, and the extent to which I want to hear 'new' and 'different' really depends on the day.. but it can be fun :]

EDIT: I swear I'm only seeing my old posts about Kate Miller-Heidke in this thread now.. pretty funny to think that it's about 4,5 years ago when I said "I should probably buy her albums" Yes, younger self. That was a good idea. =D

15-03-2014, 21:47 Joe

24-03-2014, 23:56 Luucaz

The 'Circus' song was just a trick, as are first 5 songs on the Hundreds album. After that, the album chokes you, scares you, makes you cry. Dark stuff, best thing I've heard this year.

Christmas music. Because some in Seattle messed up and our Christmas music started playing instead of Halloween music. I don't like Starbucks' music selection on the best of days (Except Survivin' in the 80's playlist, that's my jam) but this is driving me crazy. 8 Hours of Hallelujah and let it snow. In October. No.
